Njalikwa Chongwe
Fremantle potter Njalikwa Chongwe specializes in Raku and Stoneware fired ceramics with intricate patterns and designs which he draws inspiration for from his African heritage.
Njalikwa has been working in his South Fremantle studio/gallery since 1988, he has exhibited internationally and is represented in galleries throughout Australia. Njalikwa uses the Japanese Raku technique of firing because it allows him to create brightly coloured pieces with earthy and primitive essence.
Njalikwa produces a wide range of non functional and functional ceramic pieces; urns in different shapes and sizes, bowls, tea and coffee pots, mugs, wall plaques and a range of dramatic jewellery pieces.
His studio gallery, Zinongo is located on top of the Beaconsfield ridge overlooking Fremantle Harbour and the vast expanse of the Indian Ocean.
