CLAY - TEXTURE - SURFACE -
I have been potting for 32 years and to this day and despite my interest in the many aspects of pottery – it is still the actual physical activity, sitting at the wheel and throwing, that gives me the most enjoyment.
Texture and the unique plastic, responsive nature of clay to stretching, are one of my main areas of current interest.
I want the surface and form, clay body and throwing to be totally integrated, the final shape and surface to be the result of the throwing process and the response of the clay to being thrown and stretched. I like the particle size and plasticity of the clay to be reflected in the final form and surface, the rim and the surface to make a statement about the clay's ability to stretch and expand and in some cases to even hold together.
All of my work is currently either woodfired or woodfired saltglazed stoneware
