Service Description

Here is a great opportunity to learn all the tips and tricks involved in pit firing with Narayani Palmer. This workshop runs over two consecutive days. Participants will bring to the workshop their burnished and bisqued pots and they will learn how to decorate their work to create beautiful smoke effects and delicate colourful markings. They will learn the technical aspects of coloration, how to pack the pit, and begin the firing process. Soup and snacks will be served as the firing proceeds. On the following day participants will help unpack their pots from the kiln, and Narayani will reflect on and analyse the process and results. Saturday, September 9 from 3pm to 8pm Sunday, September 10 from 3 to 5pm. WHAT TO BRING: Up to 5 pots (max size 20cm x 20cm) Stoneware or Raku clay. Pots will need to be burnished and/or terra sigillataed and bisqued to 900˚c A bag of firewood and if you like, other combustible material such as straw, dry coffee grounds, seaweed, copper wire etc. A notebook, camera (phone) and drinks. Please wear sturdy shoes and old clothes and bring gloves.
