Philippa Gordon

Ceramist Philippa Gordon has been exhibiting for the past 24 years. Japanese aesthetics and philosophy resonate profoundly, as Tokyo was home in her early twenties. This mega-city experience rich in culture, where art and nature pervade continues to influence her practice. Pip’s work alludes to the natural process of weathering, an indicator of the passing of time; ageing, bleaching, erosion or tumbled and worn by the sea. Philippa’s simple contemplative forms incorporate coloured clays, impressed, inlaid (mishima) or printed motifs. These processes form a layer in a multi-layered surface. Ancient ceramic glazes and techniques are re-presented in a contemporary context.
